Neve Campbell Not Returning for 'Scream 6' Due to Pay Dispute
Neve Campbell has revealed that she will not return for Scream 6 due to a payment conflict.
The actor has played the lead character "Sidney Prescott" in all five previous chapters of the blockbuster horror genre, most recently in this year's Scream.
While the next film in the franchise has already been given the go-ahead, Campbell revealed yesterday (6 June) that she would not be returning.
According to PEOPLE, the actress called it a "very tough decision" and thanked her fans who have supported her since the beginning of the beloved franchise.
"Sadly, I will not be making the next Scream film. As a woman, I've had to work really hard in my profession to justify my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she said.
"I believed the offer proposed to me did not reflect the value I gave to the franchise" she said.
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,” she added.
In February, Neve Campbell stated that she was still unsure of her involvement in Scream 6 after returning for Scream 5.
“Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”
The sixth chapter of the 'Scream' franchise will begin filming in the coming summer.
Scream 6 is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023.
